Many of us cannot always afford to get facials and other skin clearing treatments done professionally especially these days with the pandemic. Making at home serums can be simple and save you time and money. We will take you through how to make your own at-home face serum using oils that work best for different skin types.
Everyone’s skin has different problem areas. We are going to cover the face serum recipes for six different skin types:
- Normal Skin
- Dry Skin
- Oily Skin
- Acne-Prone Skin
- Sensitive Skin
Each recipe includes ingredients that are mainly used to treat skin aging problems but when mixed with essential oils can also treat other skin-related problems. Most of these ingredients are household items and any essential oils you can buy on Amazon for a decent price.
Face Serum for Normal Skin:
- 2 tablespoons fractioned coconut oil
- 3-5 drops of Vitamin E oil (optional)
- 5 drops of helichrysum essential oil
- 4 drops of sandalwood essential oil
- 3 drops of lavender essential oil
Fractioned Coconut Oil (FCO) is a great carrier oil because it’s very light and has many health benefits. The difference between FCO and regular coconut oil is it’s liquid state. Holding this state, FCO prevents oxidation (the process of combining oxygen with an element or substance, can also be done slowly). This process effectively extends the shelf life of your essential oil.

Face Serum for Dry Skin:
- 2 tablespoons of avocado oil
- 3-5 drops of Vitamin E oil (optional)
- 5 drops of myrrh essential oil
- 4 drops of lavender essential oil
- 3 drops of frankincense essential oil
Avocado oil is a great moisturizer for dry skin problems because it is very hydrating. Myrrh essential oil is the best for anti-aging as well as dry skin. Combine these two oils together and you will have smooth skin in no time.

Face Serum for Oily Skin:
- 2 tablespoons of grapeseed oil
- 3-5 drops of Vitamin E oil (optional)
- 5 drops of lemon essential oil
- 4 drops of Roman Chamomile essential oil
- 3 drops of rose essential oil
The advantage of using grapeseed oil is that it is a great carrier for oily skin because it is light and doesn’t clog your pores. Grapeseed oil leaves little residue on the skin which will make you feel fresh. Lemon is considered a natural degreaser. By adding lemon essential oil to your face serum you will get a natural cleanse.
This face serum should only be applied at night before going to bed because lemon essential oil is photosensitive. Do not apply to your face if you are planning on being out in the sun.

Face Serum for Acne-Prone Skin:
- 2 tablespoons of argan oil.
- 3-5 drops of Vitamin E oil (optional)
- 5 drops of tea tree essential oil
- 4 drops of frankincense essential oil
- 3 drops of lavender essential oil
Argan oil is the best source for fighting off breakouts and acne-prone skin. Other benefits of using argan oil include, cell regeneration, hydration, and fading of acne scars. When argan oil is combined with tea tree, frankincense, and lavender essential oils, this face serum can become a lifesaver for anyone with acne and breakout problems. These oils work best for spot treatment or breakout prevention.

Face serum for Sensitive Skin:
- 2 tablespoons of jojoba oil
- 3-5 drops of vitamin E oil (optional)
- 5 drops of rose essential oil
- 4 drops of lavender essential oil
- 3 drops of frankincense essential oil
Jojoba oil is highly recommended for anyone with sensitive skin issues because it penetrates well into the skin. Mixing this with rose, lavender, and frankincense essential oils will result in a great face serum for sensitive skin. These oils are very gentle on the skin and can also be used for the little ones as well.

There is only one method used to make all the face serums mentioned, simply pick your carrier oil, pick your essential oil, add in Vitamin E oil (optional), and mix it together in a glass dropper bottle. Now instead of waiting for your next facial appointment or spending money on ready-made serums that probably include ingredients that might not suit you, you can finally make your very own home-made face serums using the recipes above to get the, healthy looking skin you’ve always wanted and save all that hassle.

Q) Is Vitamin E Oil Good for Anti-Aging?
Although Vitamin E oil was mentioned as optional in all the recipes, I would highly recommend that you add it. Vitamin E oil is great for your skin, because it acts as a powerful antioxidant and it will definitely help in improving the appearance of your skin.
Vitamin E oil can reduce wrinkles, fine lines, and prematurely aged skin. It is best when used consistently and is also great for solving all other skin problems.
Q) How long does face serum last?
This face serum will last one year when stored properly. Store it in airtight glass bottles for best results.
Q) How much and how often do I apply my face serum?
You should apply your face serum both in the morning and at night. In the morning, apply it normally, after that you can apply your SPF and makeup the same way. At night apply the face serum before going to bed.
Apply 3-5 drops of your face serum, a little bit goes a long way. However, if you still feel like this much won’t be sufficient to apply all over your face then try putting it on your face when it is still a little damp. This will help to lock in the moisture from the water and make it easier to spread on your face.
Having healthy and nice-looking skin is a priority for everyone. Which is why it is important to know how you can achieve younger, healthier, and beautiful-looking skin that will help you gain confidence and get compliments from everyone around you. These face serums will surely help you to reach that goal. Making your own at-home face serum with just a few of these essential oils and carrier oils is extremely easy and much more convenient than buying a moisturizer or waiting days to finally get that facial appointment. Using the face serums will not only help you to achieve the best-looking skin but also get your loved ones to notice your good-looking skin. This will be a sign that your face serum is the perfect one. All the essential oils mentioned in the recipes above are designed to help treat all kinds of skin problems. When combined exactly the way the recipe mentions, no skin problem will go untreated. o So, go ahead and start making your own at-home face serums and tackle that skin problem to get skin that will make you look like a million bucks!
